Once Human is an open-world survival game with a seasonal structure: worlds reset, and only some of your progress carries over. Knowing what carries over changes what you should spend time on.

Learn what survives the reset

Your account-level progression persists between seasons. Your base and most of your gear do not. That means the early hours are best spent on things that carry, not on a beautiful base you are going to lose.

Build small, build near water and ore

Your first territory should be functional: a crafting bench, a furnace, a stove, and a bed. Place it between a water source and an ore node. Walking distance is the hidden cost of every survival game.

Do not spend your first evening decorating. Build the minimum, then explore.

Carry the right five things

  • Food and water, more than you think
  • A ranged weapon with spare ammunition
  • Repair materials
  • One healing item
  • Free inventory space

Full inventories are how players lose loot they cannot pick up.

Deviations are the real progression

The creatures you capture do the work: generating resources, cooking, defending your base. A player with three useful deviations outpaces a player with better weapons. Prioritise them.

Fight only what you need to

Enemy scaling in contested zones is punishing early. Avoid the high-level areas until your gear tier matches, and use the terrain: most enemies path badly around obstacles.

The mistake that wastes the most time

Hoarding low-tier materials. Storage is limited and early materials stop mattering quickly. Craft them, use them, move up a tier.
