Townscaper is the work of solo developer Oskar Stålberg, and it describes itself more as a toy than a game. You start with an empty sea. Click anywhere to place a block, pick a colour, and the game automatically decides what it becomes: a house, a tower, an arch, a staircase, a small garden or a bridge between buildings.
The magic is in how the game adapts to what you build. Stack blocks and you get towers with roofs and windows; enclose a space and courtyards appear; connect structures and bridges form. Small details such as birds, laundry lines and lamps bring the towns to life, and you can change the colour of each block to create your own style.
There are no objectives, no resources and no way to lose. You build simply for the pleasure of it, then take screenshots of your creations. It is an ideal game for short creative breaks, for playing with children, or for anyone who wants to make something beautiful in a few minutes.
