Mirror's Edge Catalyst is DICE's reimagining of its cult 2008 parkour game. You follow Faith Connors, a runner who moves information across the city of Glass, where a handful of corporations control almost every aspect of daily life. Runners live outside that system, using the rooftops as their own network.
Movement is everything. Seen through Faith's eyes, you sprint, vault, wall-run, swing and slide, and the game rewards you for keeping momentum. Red highlights called Runner Vision can guide you along the fastest path, or you can turn them off and find your own routes. Compared to the original, the city is now an open world, with story missions, delivery runs and time trials spread across its districts.
The game is at its best when you are simply running: learning a district, spotting shortcuts and shaving seconds off a route. Combat is present but secondary, and the story is fairly straightforward. As a movement game, though, it remains one of the most elegant on PC, and its clean, bright art direction still looks great.
