A Short Hike, created by independent developer adamgryu, is a compact open-world adventure set in a peaceful island park. You play Claire, who has come to spend time with her aunt but is waiting for an important call — and the only place with reception is the top of Hawk Peak.
How you get there is up to you. Claire can climb rock faces, glide from high points and collect golden feathers that let her climb longer and higher. The island is full of small activities and optional side quests: fishing, digging for treasure, helping other hikers, racing, or simply sitting on a bench to enjoy the view.
The game's strength is its warmth. Conversations are funny and kind, the pixel-art world is cosy, and the soundtrack adapts as you explore. It can be finished in a couple of hours, but many players take much longer, simply because it is such a pleasant place to be. It is an ideal game for relaxing, and an easy recommendation for players of any age.
